Accomplishments
Introduction
The Bio City Development Company (BCDco) principals are pioneers in the development of international medicine, having developed the first international academic hospital with both American and European affiliations, the largest private teaching hospital in Europe and some of the first private hospitals in South-East Asia.
BCDco's PPP projects have broken new ground in areas as diverse as hospital finance and academic research. The Golden Jubilee Hospital is now ranked as one of the best hospitals in the UK's NHS in terms of clinical outcomes and cardiothoracic innovation. The transplantation unit and ICU at Boston Children's Hospital were the first of their kind and carried out the first pediatric bone marrow transplants in the United States. L'Institut du Coeur in Saigon today carries out over 1,000 complex cardiac procedures per year, one of the largest practices in the region.

United Kingdom
At the time of its founding, the hospital was the largest start-up company in the history of the City of London.
A $400 million project founded and led by the BCDco Senior Chairman, the Hospital gained affiliation with Glasgow University, one of the United Kingdom's leading medical schools. The Hospital includes 200 tertiary care beds and a significant step-down facility and is the main cardio-thoracic hospital of the North of the United Kingdom.
The project was the first international teaching hospital ever built, with affiliations on two continents, and patients from all over the world. Situated on the banks of the river Clyde, the brownfield site required significant upgrade. The principals structured and raised the project finance, authored the medical program and managed the hospital delivery consultants through to handover to management. The project is today rated one of the best hospitals in the NHS.
Boston Children's Hospital
United States of America
Perhaps the greatest children's hospital in the world, The Boston Children's Hospital has been responsible for the introduction of numerous ground-breaking innovations into the clinical environment. Key amongst these was the new unit for transplantation and intensive care, founded and developed by the BCDco principals. Post-development, the unit went on to host the first pediatric bone marrow transplant in the United States of America.
The creation of the unit was in many ways thanks to the basic research of the BCDco Senior Chairman and his discovery of a new class of immunosuppressants. The unit has been one of the most successful pediatric tertiary care businesses of the past 25 years, consistently turning a profit from a mixture of both public and private patients.
L'Institut du Coeur Saigon & Centre de Cardiologie de Phnom Penh
Vietnam & Cambodia
Before L'Insitut du Coeur in Saigon, excellent healthcare was virtually an unknown in Vietnam and the region.
The BCDco Chairman was a key member of the team that raised the non-profit funding, trained the key medical and paramedical personnel, instituted the medical program and as a result created what is today a successful cardiac hospital in the heart of an emerging city of eight million people.
Looking at the healthcare failures in emerging markets, both before and since, it is not a given that such a project would succeed. What was needed was a fundamental change in the way healthcare was delivered in an underdeveloped market where private care was unknown. Similar institutions have now been set up in neighbouring markets.
